PART 3 : August 21, 2006
After dealing with that, my case was handed to another guy, Tom F., and he was worse:
"This is the second letter that I have sent about my application for disability benefits. To summarize my last letter (...), I expressed my frustration with the way I have been treated throughout this entire process. And, even though I have heard from people in the SSA that my application was denied, I STILL have not received an official denial.
- My application should have taken about twelve hours to process. "The applicant is disabled. He should receive disability benefits." Done.
- I would understand if it took about twelve days, since you probably have to contact my doctor to confirm my illness. I'm sure there are plenty of cases where someone who is not disabled applies for benefits, and you want to make sure that I'm not doing that.
- If the process took twelve weeks, someone is obviously taking their time getting things done, but at least it is getting done.
- It has been TWELVE MONTHS and I am still waiting. Twelve months is inexcusable.
While the SSA is taking their time with my application, I have been trying to live off of $800 per month [...]. I don't know if you even understand the concept of attempting to live on that paltry income. Try it and get back to me with your experiences. Now, on top of your normal expenses, add my medical costs to that, and you might see how I have to live [I never did hear from anyone]. The only problem with that little experiment is that you can go back to making your normal salary whenever you want. I do not have that luxury.
Thanks to this horrific process, it is amazing that I still am able to live in something besides a refrigerator box and that I have any kind of credit rating at all. If things keep going like this, I WILL lose my house, and no bank will touch me if I try to buy a new one. And I have the Social Security Administration to thank for this mess.
This process has been a nightmare. I can't conceive of how this can go worse..."
